- Ribbon Cutting/Easter Egg Hunt at Riviera East Park
It was generally agreed that people had a nice time at the ribbon cutting and Easter egg hunt at Riviera East Park on April 23. About 100 people attended. It was suggested that the Easter egg hunt should be an annual event. It was also suggested that BRECA get a table cloth with the BRECA logo for events. Rick Sloan is to investigate suppliers and prices. - Newsletter
It was agreed to try to put out a community Newsletter in June. Writing assignments were agreed upon, with a deadline of May 22. - Update: Gristmill Habitat Restoration
Gay Jones reported that she had spoken with Grant Kreinberg (Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency). The Corps wants to fix the second erosion site at the Kansas Access staging area with a bed of rocks covered with dirt. This is planned for May to June. Restoration of grassland and trees is planned for the fall. - Update: Tree Round at Library
Gay Jones reported that money for the awning over the book drop had been approved. It is planned to install the awning around the end of May. Then the tree round is to be mounted there. How the tree round is to be mounted is not clear. - Update: Gristmill Gatherers
Gay Jones reported that a sign has been installed at the Gristmill parking lot acknowledging the Gristmill Gatherers trash pickup activities. There was discussion of getting a can for recycling. Most people thought this would be a good thing to try. - Update: Steering Committee Nominations and Election
Jim Morgan reported that all the present Steering Committee members had been nominated. There was one additional nomination. Ballots are planned to go out in a week or so. - Update: “Rescue Our Regional Parks,” Grass Roots Working Group
Gay Jones reported that the Grass Roots Working Group (GWG) had released recommendations to “Rescue Our Regional Parks.” Gay handed out copies of the Executive Summary. She summarized the recommendations as:- create an independent Park District to replace the County Parks Department,
- have an amendment to the County charter for continued funding from the County for the independent district on the order of about $2.9 million per year, and
- have a sales tax of 0.1% of taxable sales to support the new Park district. All three items are to be together in one proposal to the voters. She also noted that there will be a hearing on this on May 24 at 4:00 pm at the Board of Supervisors chambers.
Jim Morgan noted that the GWG recommendations were inconsistent in their treatment of land acquisition, having weak language in one place and none in another. It was pointed out that land acquisition is not in the Executive Summary at all, and that many people only read the Executive Summary.

- Pending Supervisorial Redistricting
Gay Jones distributed maps of alternative new districts for the County Board of Supervisors. There is to be a public meeting on June 7, 2011 at the Rancho Cordova Library at 7:00 pm.
